JON'S MOTORS
(continued...)
Between the time the van was at Lodi Welding, and my move to another state,
the van
sat for quite some time. The cylinders had rusted and it the engine
needed to be rebuilt again.
I went looking for Jon. He built the engine in the first place and I didn't
know anybody else.
Having had the experience years before with Phil, I wanted someone I could
trust.
Jon again talked endlessly about VW engines and his experience. It's just
his nature.
I came away feeling pretty good about the future of my engine and I delivered
it soon after.
What was needed was left up to Jon and he determined that the crank shaft,
camshaft,
and their bearings were fine so a "top end" rebuild was called for.
He also was to
rebuild the cylinder heads and install the new pistons and cylinders I provided.
We agreed that Jon would also install
exhaust system. I bought a
new
muffler,
and a heat exchanger. I bought the other exchanger used from Jon.
He said these were tough
to make leak free, but he "knew how to do it right".
