Insulating Your Vehicle 2
In fairness to the "Heat, Noise, Rust..." article I rather obscurely referred to earlier,
some of the suggestions may be valid.
For instance, I think the idea of treating the inside of your vehicle's walls with a rust preventative
and then a sound deadener makes sense. Also, installing a vapor barrier over your insulation
strikes me as valid as well.
It's the insulation itself that makes all the difference here.
Before I wander too far away from the "prep" stuff I mentioned, if you are going to take off the
cardboard (or whatever) panels that make up the bulk of your interior, I suggest you remove the plastic-covered
insulation VW put in there, remove/treat any rust you find on the inside of your van's skin, and paint.
If you plan to use any kind of sound deadener, do it next.
That done, install a good insulating material which is not a sponge in waiting and run any wires
etcetera you need before installing a vapor barrier.
