Insulating Your Vehicle
I'll be honest.
If you are willing to take the time and make the effort to repair, upgrade, and insulate your
heating system and haven't insulated the vehicle itself, you're a fool.
The VW van is a large and often drafty tin box.
If your tin box is hurtling down the road at 60MPH on a 32°F
day, the wind chill will bring
the skin temperature of your "loaf of bread" to about -28°F.
Assuming your factory heating system is in great shape, you're pumping hot air into a deep freeze unit.
There's more than one article on the web that, with the best of intentions, says you should
use that itchy pink fiberglass home insulation in the walls of your vehicle. It will work.
It also is a big pink sponge lurking there behind your shag rug covered walls sucking the water
out of your every exhallation. Fiberglass insulation can capture and hold an amazing amount
of water and that water is just dying to turn your beloved antique into a sieve.
